CAMFEB Breastfeeding Runs
The Run
Career Mothers for Exclusive Breastfeeding (CAMFEB) organizes the CAMFEB Breastfeeding Run during the World Breastfeeding Week of 1st-7th August every year. The 2026 run will mark the 5th anniversary of the run, with runs consistently being held from 2022. The run brings together like-minded individuals, organizations and institutions that are passionate about protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding as a key pillar for maternal and child health. The 2026 run targets to register a participation of approximately 2,000 participants.
The Cause
Breastfeeding is a proven, cost-effective intervention for child health, human capital and sustainable development. It has the single largest potential impact on child mortality of any preventive intervention, providing irreplaceable nutrition and protection for infants. Yet exclusive breastfeeding rates remain low globally and in Kenya, posing risks to child survival and development. It is important to note that breastfeeding directly contributes to multiple Sustainable Development Goals, including good health and well-being (SDG 3), zero hunger (SDG 2), responsible consumption (SDG 12), climate action (SDG 13), decent work (SDG 8), and reduced inequalities (SDG 10). Promoting breastfeeding is therefore both a public health imperative and a strategic investment in Kenya’s sustainable future.

The Breastfeeding movement
World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is a global campaign to raise awareness and galvanise action on themes related to breastfeeding. WBW was started in 1992 to generate public awareness and support for breastfeeding. WBW is officially celebrated on 1-7 August every year. Since 2016, WBW is aligned with all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In 2018, a World Health Assembly resolution endorsed WBW as an important breastfeeding promotion strategy.
CAMFEB is driving a national movement to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding, ensuring that every mother has the systems, spaces, and support she needs to succeed. CAMFEB works closely with relevant government agencies and other like-minded partners to advance breastfeeding support across workplaces, communities, and public spaces.
CAMFEB provides structured, practical, and scalable solutions that enable organizations to become fully breastfeeding-friendly.
